Paul Donaghy was born in Northern Ireland in 1964. A successful career in Graphic Design followed his studies at the University of Ulster, Belfast but in 2004 he left this behind to dedicate his time to painting. The work of The Scottish Colourists, Matisse, Cézanne, Nicolas de Staël, and Yeats all influence Paul’s work. Paul works mostly with a palette knife and characterises his paintings with highlights of heavy impasto and vigorous slashes of colour. Paul’s origins as a designer are still very visible in the strong shapes, lines and bold colour that embody his floral still lifes. He hopes to provide moments that are necessary to everyone to reflect, to meditate and to think intensely.
